Review of the Dell Latitude D600 Intel P

Dell Latitude D600 Intel P-4 (1.80 GHz, 2 MB cache), 512 MB, 40 GB Hard Drive, CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive, 14.1 TFT LCD; ATI Mobility Radeon TM 9000, 56K v.92 internal modem, 10/100/10002 Ethernet LAN, Wireless (802.11b/g) MiniPCI; Wi-Fi compatible (standard) Microsoft Windows XP

This laptop gets very mixed reviews from users. Many people have found a serious problem with the keyboard on this machine. It is of very poor construction and keys have a tendency to fall off the keyboard. Dell will replace the keyboard and it is not very difficult to install, but the problem tends to continue with the additional keyboards. The laptop also tends to heat up considerably under only a short use. There have also been battery problems and the mouse has a tendency to jump around the screen when not in use. The list of problems seems to be too great to make this machine a worthwhile investment. Particularly if you rely on your laptop a great deal. For heavy computer users, this is not the one for you.

Of course, there are users who have not experienced the same kind of problems, but they seem to be in the minority. Just from a customer satisfaction calculation the Dell D600 is not their finest machine. It seems to cause the most problems for those who use their laptops extensively, but if you are going to buy a laptop, you should not experience these problems at all. This particular configuration of the D600 features the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card, which is outstanding for games graphics. However, with the problems that this machine suffers from the great graphics hardly make up for a machine that will give you such a difficult time.

The computer is relatively low cost at this point, so for a mild user who only needs a laptop for occasional use on the road, it is a good economic value. It is lightweight weighing in at only just over five pounds.
